Do you want to be an Author? Then, Just Write!
Statistics has shown that 80% of people dreams of writing a book someday but this is what it is for most people; a dream! What differentiates the dreamers from the Authors is simply ACTION. Brian Tracy, who has written over 50 books has this to say…”I did not graduate from high school, and I failed high school English. I fantasized about writing a book for many years before I decided to “Just write!”’
Anyone can write a book & become an Author, if they give themselves over to learning the art & practice of writing. Writing, just like any other skill can be learnt & honed through practice.
So how exactly do you just write?
✍🏽Start where you are: The easiest way to write is to begin by writing on the topics that you are passionate about, you could also harness your thoughts & opinions on the day to day happenings around you. This could be personal or the experience of others, economic or political issues, trends etc.; the point is, if it is happening, then you can write about it.
✍🏽 Read: Make a daily practice of reading a few pages of any subject of life. This could be a blogpost, a book, a magazine etc. Reading opens up your mind & allows your creative juices to flow. A great reader will become a great writer, reading opens up your mind & allows your creative juices to flow. You want to become a great writer? Then begin to read, voraciously.
✍🏽Listen: Are you in a season of your life where you don’t have the time to read? Then begin to listen, this is easier to work into your daily routine as you can listen to an audio book, a podcast, a YouTube video while your hands & eyes are busy with other tasks. Truly, there are no excuses when you truly want something.
✍🏽Have a curious mind: Curiosity is a strong desire to know or learn something, this is a skill every writer should intentionally develop. Open up your mind to the world, ask questions & allow your mind to explore knowledge.
✍🏽Critical Thinking: is the ability to think clearly and rationally, understanding the logical connection between ideas. To be a critical thinker, you need to begin to let go of personal biases, stereotypes & assumptions as your focus must always be a keen analysis of facts. The ability to sustain critical thinking is guaranteed to make you a writer that stands out.
